Static Electricity
Static electricity is an accumulated charge of electricity in an object.
We naturally gather amounts of electrostatic charge as we go about our daily lives.
This is especially so in low-humidity environments, such as heated homes in winter or in dry climates.
While harmless to humans, even a small discharge of static electricity through a computer circuit can cause
irreparable damage to computer components. Therefore, it is important to prevent static
electricity from doing any damage.
Before handling computer components, always ground yourself. Some wear an anti-static wrist band
to prevent damage. Others are in the habit of touching metal , such as the sides of the case, in order to ground
themselves.
