Ping

A ping is a test to determine if a system on the Internet is functioning properly. The test is usually simply an attempt to connect over the Internet, with the time it takes to connect recorded. In this manner, one or more servers can be tested. Various computers can be tested in order to determine the best routing.

Also, to ping a blog is a service offered by some websites in which a blog entry or post is recorded at blog directories so it can be visited.
