Operating System
O/S
This is the central part of the computer that manages the system's hardware, provides an operating
environment for applications, and provides a user interface, such as Windows® XP, Mac
OS®, or Linux.
The O/S most commonly found on today's computers is Windows® XP or Windows®
Vista. For most users, Windows® XP provides a very stable environment, has many features, and is
inexpensive. Windows® Vista is newer, has more features, is somewhat more secure, but is not compatible
with much hardware and software that is not as new as Vista, and is expensive.
