MPEG
Motion Picture Experts Group
MPEG (pronounced EM-peg), is a popular compression format for video. The Motion Picture
Experts Group develops standards for digital video and audio under the auspices of the International Organization
for Standardisation (ISO).
MPEG video files (which have the suffix .mpg) are necessarily large and require a computer with
sufficient processor speed, internal memory, and hard disk space. An MPEG viewer or appropriate
client software is also necessary. MPEG viewer shareware and commercial MPEG players
are available for download from a number of websites.
