Cryptography
The science of securing information by coding so only those with authorization, or permission, can read the
secured information. Access is gained through use of a decoding key, which is a form of password. When
cryptography is used to code infomratin, the information is said to have been encrypted.
Encryption is used for a variety of purposes. It can be used in a computer or computer network to secure
information in a website. It is used also to protect financial information, such as credit card information, during
financial transactions.
