The Web (World Wide Web) was originally created in 1994 by researchers at CERN to
facilitate the sharing of research information. CERN is an internationally-funded research laboratory in
Geneva, Switzerland. Hypertext transport protocol (HTTP), which made the World Wide Web possible, was created
by Dr. Tim Berners-Lee, a researcher at CERN.
