Beta Software
This is software that is nearly ready to be released to the general public, but which is likely to still have
bugs, errots, problems and other assorted short-comings that have yet to be worked out.
Sometimes a company will make beta software available on their website in the hope of receiving
feedback. Fight the temptation. It may not be a good idea to try the newest thing because beta
software can cause unwanted and sometimes unpleasant surprises. Besides, beta programs will often
expire before the final version is promoted for sale to the general public.
Sometimes you can identify a beta version by checking the program's properties for the version number. If there
is a "b" anywhere in the version number (such as v1.1 b2), then you have a beta version.
