CERN

The World Wide Web (the Web) was originally created in 1994 by researchers at CERN, Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire (European Laboratory for Particle Physics), to facilitate the sharing of research information. CERN is an internationally-funded research laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. Hypertext transport protocol (HTTP), which made the World Wide Web possible, was created by Dr. Tim Berners-Lee, a researcher at CERN.
